On August 8, 2024, a tweet emphasized that Runecoin's success depends on liquidity and that the project will continue experimenting to attract it. While the extreme bull case envisions Runecoin becoming the second most valuable cryptocurrency, the bear case is zero. Despite the uncertainty, the team remains committed to supporting the ecosystem.

The runes ecosystem has taken a beating, but we believe it will prove to be successful.

What is the critical thing?

Liquidity.

Everything is downstream of liquidity.

It sounds simple.

But the simple thing is hard.

Runecoin started as an experiment. We have always had the ethos that the space must win, not just a single project, including this one.

In keeping with that, we will continue to experiment, with the overarching objective of attracting interest and liquidity to the runes ecosystem.

We have ideas for how to achieve this.

But let us be clear. Runecoin does not need us to succeed. The catalyst could be unpredictable, or come from someone or something else.

If it does, we will applaud it.

Now let’s talk about the bull case: our thesis is that Runecoin could become the second most valuable cryptocurrency after Bitcoin.

That is an extreme bull case.

Runecoin Trade Offers

On August 14, 2024, the Runecoin team tweeted, "Let’s see if Runecoin works in the wild," inviting the community to sell their digital assets in exchange for Runecoin, with plans to give these assets away at a later time.

In follow-up tweets, the team revealed they had spent 30 million Runecoin to acquire various assets, including an ASIC Bitcoin miner, Bored Ape, CryptoPunk, NodeMonke, OMB, Puppet, and Quantum Cat.

Afterward, they asked the community for ideas on how to distribute these assets. As of now, the assets remain in the team's wallets, and no details have been shared on how the giveaways will be conducted.

Thanksgiving Gifts

On November 24, 2024, the Runecoin team tweeted, "Sending 888 Runecoin to a friend who doesn't have any might be a nice thing to do this Thanksgiving week." A few days later, they rewarded participants by sending 8,888 Runecoin for every 888 Runecoin given to a friend. The team also suggested that the technology used to identify on-chain participants is non-trivial and could benefit the broader ecosystem in the future.

As thank you, we sent 8888 RC to all (677) addresses who sent 888 Runecoin to a friend before block 872989.**

This was an experiment in distribution. It showed that we can identify who participated from on-chain activity and send them a gift. While it sounds simple, it was non-trivial to pull the data from the runes index.

We think this will be a useful primitive for the runes ecosystem. It enables many potential interactions based on on-chain activity.

The runes ecosystem is small and needs to grow. We are not in the business of making promises but our intention is to continue experimenting as the ecosystem matures and find ways to improve the experience and range of actions available to projects and participants.

Block 888,888

On January 21, 2025, marking the one-year anniversary of the original RSIC METAPROTOCOL ordinals airdrop, the Runecoin team tweeted "Block 888,888" with an animation of a spinning coin. On block 888,888 (March 22, 2025) the season 2 whitepaper was inscribed.

Duration

• Season 2 started at Bitcoin block 840,000.

• It ends at a future block called Block F.

• Block F will be announced at least 8,888 blocks in advance

Secret Stacking

• If your RSIC has been transferred at least once, it's active.

• Each active RSIC earns 21 "secrets" per block.

• Secrets accumulate with each new block while you hold the RSIC.

Hash-Aligned "Rarity" Bonus

• Every block has a last hexadecimal digit in its hash (0–f).

• If your RSIC’s type matches that digit, it is “hash-aligned.”

• That RSIC gets bonus secrets:

  • Formula: 21,000 × 21 ÷ n

  • Where n = number of hash-aligned RSICs in that block.

  • Fewer aligned RSICs = larger bonus per RSIC

  • This is a dynamic rarity reward

Runecoin Activation (post block 888,888)

• Starting at block 888,888, Runecoin (RC) holders can also stack secrets.

• But RC must be activated via a self-send: send RC from an address to itself.

• Only multiples of 88,888 RC will earn secrets.

• Per 88,888 activated RC = 8 secrets per block

Example:

• 88,888 RC = 8 secrets/block

• 177,776 RC = 16 secrets/block

• 100,000 RC = still just 8 secrets/block (must hit full 88,888 units)

Chaos Phase

• Once Block F is announced, a Chaos period begins:

  • Lasts 8,888 blocks, ending at Block F.

  • Details unknown — may be a final reward or distribution phase.

Stacking is Cumulative

• The more active RSICs and activated Runecoin you hold, the more secrets you stack.

• There’s no cap.

• Secrets accumulate per block, creating a game of time, quantity, and alignment.

Choices

• Hash → Stay in the game, accumulate secrets

• Fade → Ignore the system, miss out
